Why do you have to clean your lashes?
Many clients assume keeping their lash extensions away from water will
keep them on longer, however this is not true and actually has quite the
opposite effect!
Lash extensions require frequent washing, the same way your hair and
scalp do. Build up of oil, dust, dead skin cells and makeup will accumulate
on your lash line if they are not properly cleaned. The bond between your
natural lashes and extensions may weaken, resulting in the extensions
falling off prematurely.
Dirty lashes could also lead to possible infections, irritation and poor lash
growth. So if you want to keep your lashes looking like you just walked out
of the salon, remember to regularly wash your lashes!
How often should you wash your lashes?
Cleansing your lashes is an important step in your aftercare routine.
We recommend washing your lash extensions with a gentle foaming lash
cleanser at least 2-3 times a week. If you regularly wear makeup or have
oily skin, it’s best to wash your lashes on a daily basis.
Here are 4 effective tips/tricks to help your lashes look on point:
1. Clean your lash extensions properly with a lash foaming cleanser
At Libre Lash we are highly selective about the products we use and
recommend to our clients for their at-home use. We recommend Master
Lashes’ Design Lash Foaming Cleanser. Get the most of your lashes and
ask your Lash Technician about this at your next appointment!
2. Avoid touching/rubbing your lash extensions
Don’t rub your eyes! We know sometimes it’s hard to fight the urge to touch
your eyes, but please refrain from applying pressure on the immediate eye
area. Rubbing or pulling your lashes will ultimately affect your lash
retention. Putting excessive pressure on your lashes can also cause them
to fall off prematurely instead of following its natural lash cycle.
3. Opt for oil-free products
We should care for our lashes the same way we care for our skin! Make
sure you check the ingredients in your skincare and makeup, we
recommend refraining from oil-based products, as it can break the bond on
your lash extensions.
Mineral-based products are safe to use and is a great alternative.
Avoid using waterproof mascaras and eyeliners when you have extensions
on. It’s generally more difficult to remove waterproof eye makeup and it’s
best to resist putting excessive pressure on your eye area.
4.Don’t use cotton pads
It’s best to avoid using cotton pads on your eyes while you have lash
extensions on, as the fibers can get trapped between your lashes and may
snag or rip out the extensions. Instead, once you have cleaned your
lashes, take a microfiber cloth or a towel, gently pat your lashes dry then
brush your lashes with the free disposable lash brush provided to you at
your appointment.
Eyelash extensions are a great way to enhance your natural lashes without
makeup. At Libre Lashes, we prioritise your natural lash health and safety
procedures. We have various styles on offer from our lash extension
services and only use premium quality products that are safe to use around
the eye area.
